Navodaye LMS
A connected set of products for a school: student and teacher mobile apps, plus an EMIS admin platform. Playful for K–3 children, clean and focused for K–12 students, with parent controls built in.

Overview
Navodaye needed a complete digital system for schools, not a single app. I designed the student app, the teacher app, and the EMIS admin platform, so each group gets an experience that fits how they work.
My role
Product Designer
Problem
A six-year-old and a sixteen-year-old can't share the same interface. Young children need to be pulled in and kept engaged, while older students are distracted by playful elements and want fast access to their material. On top of that, parents needed a way to keep students away from sensitive information like fees, and to limit screen time for young children. Meanwhile, school administrators were managing HR, inventory, canteen and academics across separate processes.
Users
- K–3 children: learn through visuals, characters and play
- K–12 students: more mature, focused on content, want clarity and speed
- Teachers: need an efficient mobile experience for daily work
- Parents: want control over fees and screen time
- School admins: manage HR, inventory, canteen and academics
Process
- Translated educational and operational requirements into user flows for each audience.
- Split the student experience by age group, with a different design direction for K–3 and K–12.
- Designed three surfaces: student mobile app, teacher mobile app, and the EMIS web platform for admins.
- Wireframed flows, then built high-fidelity UI with reusable components and responsive layouts in Figma.
- Added parent-facing controls as a separate layer on top of the learner experience.
- Worked with developers and stakeholders to refine interactions and implementation details.
Key design decisions
Gamified experience for K–3
Bright, lively visuals, a mascot that acts as a learning companion, and interactive visual games, so children feel invested in learning.
Deliberately no gamification for K–12
Older students are more mature and can focus on the content. They get a clean UI, simple navigation and easy access to what they need.
Parent password lock on sensitive screens
Screens such as the fee page need the parent's password, so students aren't exposed to financial information.
Parent-set screen time for K–3
Parents set a limit. When it's exceeded the app locks and needs the parent's key to continue, which helps children build awareness of phone addiction.
One admin platform for school operations
EMIS brings HR, inventory, canteen and academics into one place, so admins don't switch between disconnected tools.
Outcome
The product is currently in development and hasn't launched yet. The design has been received positively, and feedback has been happy and encouraging. The result is a complete, age-appropriate design across student, teacher and admin products, ready for developers in Figma.
